Water-resistant vs waterproof dog blankets
The Dog Nook · 17 October 2026

Water-resistant and waterproof are different claims. A water-resistant blanket may provide a useful everyday furniture layer, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed barrier against liquid passing through.
Start with the intended use
Think about whether you mainly need a washable layer for loose hair, muddy paws and minor splashes, or dependable protection against larger accidents. The latter requires evidence that the product is designed for that purpose; appearance alone cannot establish it.
What our blanket is intended for
The Water Resistant Dog Blanket is a 170 × 210 cm quilted polyester furniture layer. It is available in eight colours and can be used over a sofa, bed or a suitable area in a parked car.
It is not waterproof and is not an absorbent incontinence pad. Clean spills and accidents promptly. Use an additional appropriate barrier where leak protection is essential, and check the surface underneath rather than assuming it has remained dry.
Measure the coverage you want
- Measure the seat or sleeping area.
- Include any sides or front edges you want to cover.
- Compare the total with the blanket’s 170 × 210 cm dimensions.
- Check the fabric will not trail across a walking route or into the steps.
A styling photograph can show a different amount of overhang on different furniture. Measure your own sofa rather than judging coverage from a photograph.
Care affects everyday use
Follow the supplied washing and drying instructions. Inspect the fabric and backing after cleaning, dry it fully before reuse and deal with new spills promptly. Do not assume a fabric remains an effective barrier simply because it still looks clean.
Can it be used in the car?
It can provide a washable layer over a suitable seat or boot area, provided it does not obstruct restraints, ventilation or movement. It is not a restraint or a fitted seat cover.
